999 Queer Portraits ist ein Multimedia-Foto- und Videoprojekt von David Cuka. Das Projekt beginnt mit einer Reihe kurzer Videos und fotografischer Porträts von Einzelpersonen aus queeren Communities, in denen sie ihre Geschichten, Identitäten und Erfahrungen teilen. Dieses Projekt ist nur der Anfang einer größeren Initiative, bei der jedes Porträt darauf abzielt, einen sichtbaren und sicheren Raum für queere Stimmen zu schaffen – um deren Akzeptanz und Sichtbarkeit in der Gesellschaft zu stärken. Das bestehende Archiv wird somit erweitert und die Porträts werden auch im Rahmen einer Ausstellung präsentiert.

Bei der Eröffnung von 999 Queer Portraits am 4. Dezember 2025 im Kulturhaus Brotfabrik werden 20 Porträts ausgestellt, wobei Videos nur am ersten Tag gezeigt werden; vom 5. bis 15. Dezember 2025 sind nur die Porträts zu sehen.

David Cuka ist Dokumentarfotograf & Aktivist und ein Transgender-Mann aus Albanien. Seine Arbeit konzentriert sich hauptsächlich auf visuelle Künste im Zusammenhang mit Menschenrechten, Frauenrechten, sozialer Gleichheit, Tierrechten und der Bewusstseinsbildung gegen Diskriminierung der LGBTI+-Gemeinschaft.

Cukas Aufnahmen, insbesondere das 2019 entstandene Projekt „999Portraits“, wurden in Fotojournalismus-Berichten über Albanien in lokalen und europäischen Medien weithin veröffentlicht und fanden die kontinuierliche Unterstützung von Menschenrechtsorganisationen in Albanien und dem Westbalkan durch Initiativen zur Sensibilisierung für soziale Gleichheit. Er hat mehrere Ausstellungen zu sozialen Themen im Land sowie Ausstellungen in Europa jenseits des Balkans eröffnet, während seine Arbeit in lokalen und europäischen Medien in Fotojournalismus-Berichten über Albanien weithin veröffentlicht wurde.

  • 999 Queer Portraits ist ein Projekt von David Cuka und findet im Rahmen des D—Arts Open Call „Practices of Resistance“ statt. Mit freundlicher Unterstützung von Marissa Lobo. Diese Veranstaltung wird in Kooperation mit dem Kulturhaus Brotfabrik realisiert.

999 Queer Portraits is a Multimedia Photography and Video Project by David Cuka. The project begins with a series of short videos and photographic portraits of individuals from queer communities, in which they share their stories, identities, and experiences. This project is only the beginning of a larger initiative, where each portrait aims to create a visible and safe space for queer voices – to strengthen their acceptance and visibility in society. The existing archive will thus be expanded, and the portraits will also be presented as part of an exhibition.

At the opening of 999 Queer Portraits on December 4, 2025, at Kulturhaus BrotFabrik, 20 portraits will be displayed, with videos shown only on the first day; from December 5 to 15, 2025, only the portraits will be on view.

David Cuka is a documentary photographer & activist and transgender man from Albania. His work focuses mainly on the visual arts related to human rights, women's rights, social equality, animal rights, awareness against discrimination against the LGBTI+ community.

Cuka's shots, especially the project created in 2019, ‘999Portraits’ have been widely published in local and European media in photojournalism reports on Albania, and have found the continued support of human rights organizations in Albania and the Western Balkans through initiatives to raise awareness of social equality. He has opened several exhibitions in the country related to social issues, as well as exhibitions in Europe beyond the Balkans, while his work has been widely published in local and European media in photojournalism reports about Albania.
