Comedy-Theaterstück (work in progress)

Von Mitte September 2026 an probten Dr. Sam Beale (Funny Side Collective) und Faisal Abu Alhayjaa (The Freedom Theatre) im Kulturhaus Brotfabrik und entwickelten dort ihr neues Comedy-Theaterstück mit dem Arbeitstitel „It’s Not The Time“. In dem Stück erzählt Faisal Geschichten aus seiner Kindheit im Flüchtlingslager Jenin im Westjordanland, wo er schon früh lernte, dass Lachen ein Akt des Widerstands und des Überlebens sein kann. Die Geschichten sind pointiert, überraschend und sehr witzig – entwickelt gemeinsam mit Sam, einer Comedy-Regisseurin, die seit Jahren Darsteller*innen dabei hilft, die Pointe im Persönlichen zu finden.

In einem 40-minütigen „Work-in-Progress“ geben sie einen Einblick in ihre Arbeit.

Faisal Abu Alhayjaa ist Schauspieler und Komiker aus dem Flüchtlingslager Jenin in Palästina. Als Absolvent der Schauspielschule des Freedom Theatre ist er international als Schauspieler, Komiker und Clown aufgetreten. Im Jahr 2018 tourte er mit der Show „Showtime from the Frontline“ durch Großbritannien und arbeitete dabei zum ersten Mal mit Sam zusammen.

Dr. Sam Beale ist Comedy-Autorin, Regisseurin und Dozentin sowie Gründerin des „Funny Side Collective“ und des „Palestine Comedy Club“. Sie arbeitet international mit Comedians, Solokünstler*innen, Theatergruppen und Gemeindegruppen als Comedy-Regisseurin zusammen und hat Comedy-Projekte und -Veranstaltungen in den unterschiedlichsten Kontexten geleitet.

Die Show wird auf Englisch gezeigt.

In September 2026 Dr Sam Beale (Funny Side Collective) and Faisal Abu Alhayjaa (The Freedom Theatre) rehearsed at Kulturhaus Brotfabrik and developed their new comedy-theatre show, working title “It’s Not The Time”. In the show, Faisal tells stories of growing up in Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank of Palestine where he learned early that laughter can be an act of resistance and survival. The stories are sharp, unexpected, and very funny, built with Sam, a comedy director who’s spent years helping performers find the punchline in the personal.

They will give an insight into their work in a 40 min work-in-progress.

Faisal Abu Alhayjaa is an actor and comedian from Jenin Refugee Camp, Palestine. A graduate of The Freedom Theatre Acting School, he has performed internationally as an actor, comedian and clown. In 2018 he toured the UK performing Showtime from the Frontline and collaborated with Sam for the first time.

Dr Sam Beale is a comedy writer, director, and teacher and founder of Funny Side Collective and Palestine Comedy Club. She works internationally with comedians, solo performers, theatre companies and community groups as a comedy director and has facilitated comedy projects and events in a wide range of contexts.
